Funding for startups

Sources: Pluris Closes Shop

Core router maker Pluris Inc. appears to have finally been written out of life's script. The company shut down operations Monday and sent its employees home, several sources have told Light Reading.

Pluris closed a $53 million round in February and had raised some $215 million since its inception (see Washout Rains $53M on Pluris). During its last funding round, the company restructured its equity to entice investors and employees to stick around.

One month later, CEO Joe Kennedy left, and the company has been steadily thinning its ranks since (see Pluris CEO Bolts and Pluris Hangs On).

Pluris officials did not return calls on Monday afternoon.

Light Reading will update this story on Tuesday. If you have information about the alleged closure, please contact Phil Harvey at 817-731-9228, or at [email protected].

Guess they moved out of the old ones, though!

re: Sources: Pluris Closes Shop Nova = It does not go (in Spanish "va" = it goes). Remember the Chevy Nova flop of the 70's?

Lux = Unit of illumination (equals to one lumen per square meter)

Therefore,

Novalux = the light does not go.

For a purported optical component company, it's a pretty funny name.

re: Sources: Pluris Closes Shop Check this one:

Main Entry: no-+va
Function: noun
Etymology: New Latin, feminine of Latin novus new
Date: 1927

=> a star that suddenly increases its light output tremendously and then fades away to its former obscurity in a few months or years

Is it a good enough description of Pluris?

re: Sources: Pluris Closes Shop what happened to the $53M? Was it divided among the people at Pluris? Or is it going to be another accounting error? (Hey, that was my retirement money these VCs were betting with!)

re: Sources: Pluris Closes Shop Is there any news about either of these companies:
* Caspian,
* Hyperchip?

Aren't they all in the same market? (What market, actually? ;-) Are Caspian and Hyperchip going to try and pick up these Pluris engineers?
