Sony in Handheld Heaven

Check out Sony Corp.! The latest IDC release about handheld shipment figures talks a great deal about the slump in the overall market and the merged figures for Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ), now that it has Compaq on board (see IDC: Handheld Market Shrinking). But which firm has seen a 248.5 percent increase in yearly shipments?

Yep, Sony may still be 160,000 units behind HP, but as Unstrung's granny used to say, "It's got a fair wind in its sales." [Ed: Groan!]

Passing it on the way down is poor old Handspring Inc. We won't tell you what our granny says about such a performance -- it's unbecoming of someone of her years.

Anyway, check out the table below for a stats-fest.
