BOULDER, Colo. -- PICOSECOND PULSE LABS, INC. (PSPL), a leading designer of 40-160 Gb/s opto-electronic components for long-haul optical communications systems, today announced that Mr. Clayton Smith has joined the company as the Director of Research and Development. In this position, Mr. Smith will lead new product development at the company's headquarters in Boulder and help define the company's technology strategies.

Mr. Smith received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas in 1973. Prior to joining PSPL, he worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory for 25 years as a Technical Staff Member and Section Leader for Electronics and Electro-optic Engineering. In these roles he managed teams of engineers in the development of novel electronic and electro-optic instrumentation including semiconductor devices and optical communications components. Mr. Smith is a recognized expert in the development of picosecond time domain measurement equipment.
