LONDON -- Truphone today announced the appointment of a director of engineering to deliver Truphone's ambitious handset and network roadmap. Mark Heath joins Truphone after eight years at smartphone OS developer Symbian, where his two Engineering Vice President positions included a stint leading the Application Technology group. One hundred million Symbian phones were shipped during his time at Symbian.

Prior to joining Symbian he was head of engineering at Internet equipment maker Chase Research plc (bought by Perle of Canada) and has long experience as a product manager, project manager and a software engineer, working on embedded communication software. He has an MSc in Electronic System Design from Cranfield Institute of Technology, an MBA from Surrey University, and an MSc in Software Engineering from Oxford University.
