Happy Friday!

Here's a little Light Reading Extra, a podcast where our editors, among other things, discuss the nonsense you'd probably hear if you sat next to us in a trade show press room without the background din of our constant snacking.

In this episode's opening segment, we discuss the Apple iPhone 16 launch and the Huawei tri-fold phone, announced this week less than 24 hours apart. The Huawei phone has a huge price tag and huge commercial interest, but how many people will actually plonk down thousands for the device? The iPhone, while finally featuring some more impressive hardware updates, may be too much too soon for most folks, and we aren't convinced it'll be a hit (at first).

In segment two, we discuss the facts that tickled our brains this week. You'll hear about the best thing to do when confronted by bears of all types, some commentary on how, once in a while, newly reissued music can sound worse than the original records or CDs, and a quick overview of why Dolby Atmos (or Spatial Audio, for Apple users) can help you enjoy your favorite music in a new way.

We conclude with some musings about the US election debate conspiracy theories, our favorite being that Kamala Harris was somehow being fed questions and information from outside the debate stage via some high-tech audio earrings. That didn't happen, of course, but it did make us wonder if having a producer in your ear during normal life interactions would really be such a bad thing. You'd remember names, have facts at the ready and could stay on top of all that's going on without looking at your phone. What's that? Sorry, my producer said I need to wrap it up.

Anyway, thanks for checking out the podcast. Before hanging speakers all around your man cave or media room, invest in a couple of pairs of nice headphones. You're welcome.
