September 9, 2009
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Aricent(TM), a global innovation, technology and services company focused exclusively on communications, todayannounced the expansion of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) solutions portfolioto include new software and frameworks for devices and Evolved Packet Core(EPC) systems, and enhancements to its existing IP backhaul offering. Thesenew capabilities, combined with Aricent's existing eNodeB offering, provideOriginal Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Device Manufactures with acomplete solution for LTE user equipment, network access, IP backhaul, andEPC.
According to Arete Research, LLC, commercializing LTE will require vendors tocommit more than $1 billion in research and development (R&D) over three tofive years, based on teams of 2-3,000 engineers. Aricent believes thattelecommunications equipment manufacturers are faced with the difficult taskof managing this significant R&D investment while maintaining competitive LTEproduct readiness as service providers continue their evaluation anddeployment cycles. To solve this challenge, vendors increasingly are lookingfor pre-built LTE frameworks and advanced engineering services to improve LTER&D efficiency and lower costs.
"Aricent's deep domain knowledge and proven track record in deliveringtelecommunications software and services make them a clear choice for adevelopment partner in LTE," said Venkataraman Prasannan, Sr. Director of ATCAat RadiSys. "An application-ready platform for EPC elements based on acombination of Aricent's LTE frameworks and RadiSys' industry leading ATCAplatforms and middleware is an excellent way for telecom equipmentmanufacturers to dramatically reduce time-to-market in delivering cutting edgesolutions to the industry."
