Sitting Kills

2:25 PM -- The BusinessWeek headline screams:

Your Office Chair Is Killing You

New research in the diverse fields of epidemiology, molecular biology, biomechanics, and physiology is converging toward a startling conclusion: Sitting is a public-health risk. And exercising doesn't offset it.
That's right, kids:

There is nothing to be done!!!

Oh curses that sitting was ever invented! Don't our mad geniuses know when to leave well enough alone!?

We could, I suppose, go back to squatting. Would squatting save us?

Or we could make like this putz:

You're welcome.

re: Sitting Kills

Not to mention "epidemiology." Is sitting contagious? Could we be facing a Sitting Pandemic?

The number 1 cause of death is birth. If you are born, there is a 100% chance that you will die.

Of course instead of squatting or using a treadmill you could just stand up.

re: Sitting Kills It's good to see that the Bloomberg ownership isn't affecting BW's pursuit of quality. Among the gems:
"Older people who move around have half the mortality rate of their peers." Maybe that's because their peer control group is, um, dead.
And then there's this:
"We found that people with obesity have a natural predisposition to be attracted to the chair...." And I thought it was the salty snacks and sugary beverages that hold the more fatal attraction.

re: Sitting Kills
Beautiful women can be bad for your health, according to scientists

And they don't mean financial health. This from the Telegraph Website:

Just five minutes alone with an attractive female raise the levels of cortisol, the body's stress hormone, according to a study from the University of Valencia.

The effects are heightened in men who believe that the woman in question is "out of their league".

I think I'll just stay home. And remain standing.
