SINGAPORE -- Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) announced today that it has completed an extensive and rigorous global search for the best possible candidate for the Group CEO role.

The key criterion defining the search was to look at who would be best placed, both in terms of experience and potential, to provide leadership for the SingTel Group going forward. Having examined a number of outstanding internal and external candidates for the role, the Board is pleased to announce that Ms Chua Sock Koong has been selected as Group CEO. This appointment is expected to take effect on 1 April 2007.

Ms Chua, who joined SingTel in 1989, has had 17 years of experience with the SingTel Group. She currently holds the positions of CEO (International) and Group CFO. Her International portfolio comprises the key drivers of SingTel’s international business, with responsibility for the Group’s strategic investments, as well as its IT business arm, NCS. In addition to her International portfolio, Ms Chua is also responsible for overseeing Group Information Systems, Group Finance and Corporate Affairs (which spans group strategy, treasury, tax, legal, investor relations and corporate communications).

Mr Chumpol NaLamlieng, Chairman of SingTel, said, “We are extremely fortunate to have a leader of Sock Koong’s calibre and experience to take the helm. Sock Koong has been an outstanding CFO, and the numerous awards and accolades she has received for her role as CFO in SingTel bears testimony to this. She has been closely involved in the transformation and growth of SingTel and has played a key role in making SingTel the operationally and financially very strong company that it is today.

“With her proven strong leadership and financial capabilities, and the able support from an excellent bench of management and staff, she is well placed to set the direction to achieve the long-term vision for the Group in the coming years. My fellow directors and I look forward to working with her to further grow and develop the Group’s businesses.”

He further added, “We are deeply appreciative of Hsien Yang’s outstanding leadership and his many achievements as Group CEO, and are pleased that he intends to stay until the end of the fourth quarter to ensure a smooth and orderly transition. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
