Silverlight Takes Wimbledon

3:45 PM -- Today on Contentinople:

  • Next week, NBCU will be streaming the Wimbledon 2009 tennis tournament using Microsoft Silverlight and its "Smooth Streaming" adaptive bit rate technology. Wimbledon will be the first major live event in which the technology is used.

  • Five will become the first major broadcaster in the U.K. to offer embeddable full-length content online, using Brightcove. Specifically, Five will make use of the Brightcove feature that allows it to "specify the geographies where Internet users can access online video and advertising, while geo-blocking video distribution on the Web outside of those regions."

And in today's News Bits, reports say Google is scared of Microsoft's new search engine, Bing.
