MUNICH -- Brasil Telecom has commissioned the Siemens Communications Group (Com) to operate and maintain its network infrastructure in the states of Santa Catarina and Paraná. More than 3.2 million subscribers are connected to the telecommunication operator’s networks, which extend across roughly 300,000 square kilometers of terrain. The three-year contract with Brasil Telecom has a volume of over €75 million.

With this contract, our 100 th managed services contract, Siemens Com Carrier Services is now the leading managed services provider in Brazil. The Brazilian telecommunications market is extremely competitive and also the most important market in Latin America, daccounting for more than 40 percent of total telecommunications and managed services volume in the region.

Siemens will take over the operation and maintenance of the telecommunications network. These services will allow Brasil Telecom to optimize costs while simultaneously minimizing the risk of network down time.

Siemens won the contract in part due to its strong local presence. Also, Siemens is able to manage both wireless and fixed-subscriber networks that contain network components from different manufacturers.
