Shaw Picks Ellacoya for IP Service Management

In a coup for Ellacoya Networks, Shaw Communications intends to use the vendor's broadband management system for IP service management. Shaw announced earlier today that it's deploying Ellacoya's IP Service Control System to manage service plans, application bandwidth and network policies for high-speed data subscribers. The management system will provide Shaw with greater information on subscriber and application usage, controls to manage network resources accordingly and tools to roll out new, differentiated services. Plans call for Canada's second largest MSO to install Ellacoya's e30 IP service switches in about 50 sites across the Shaw broadband network. Shaw said it picked Ellacoya because of the vendor's Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) for application detection and its system-wide reporting capability.
