WOBURN, Mass. -- Valid8.com, Inc. has completed integration of its call server into the All Ports Testing Plan, a critical part of British Telecom’s $20 billion, five-year 21st Century Network (21CN) initiative. British Telecom (BT) is building a new advanced system from the ground up, installing all new optical fiber lines designed to support faster, higher quality service and reduce maintenance requirements.
“Valid8.com is pleased to be playing a key role in this pioneering transformation of British Telecom’s telecommunication system,” said Valid8.com President and CEO Ian Carpenter. “This unprecedented overhaul — of the entire country’s telecommunications system — is slated to save BT between $1 billion and $2 billion in maintenance costs annually.”
Valid8.com was referred to BT through JDSU and SOLINET, their sister company in Germany and worked with JDSU, Fujitsu and Huawei to implement a solution. Using the SAFIRE platform, Valid8.com rapidly customized and delivered a testing solution that provides soft switch functionality to test Multi-Service Access Nodes (MSANs). This enabled BT to systematically test the new lines to ensure all end points have been connected and are functioning properly. Testing at this level validates the technology and satisfies an absolute requirement for the provider, proving that when customers are switched over to the new system, their phones will work properly without interruption.
“Having successfully completed phase one testing, we are now looking to expand testing to over 200 field engineers. The beauty of this testing solution is that it can be run from any laptop, meaning a completely mobile solution with no specialized hardware. A solution that is completely scalable and upgradable to future technologies” said Carpenter. “We are eager to begin phase two in 3Q07 and help BT further implement this exciting new technology, which will add significant value to their customers.”
