Verizon CFO Fran Shammo today dismissed speculation that his company is selling off its Verizon Enterprise Solutions unit, calling it "fact-less conjecture," and even hinted that it is competitively motivated. (See Verizon Enterprise Sale Would Signal Big Shift.)

Speaking at a Wells Fargo & Co. Conference that was live streamed, Shamo said, "There is no foundation behind these comments."

"The caution I kind of wonder about is, are our competitors trying to get enterprise customers a little antsy about Verizon and our continued support?" Shammo added. "I think we've shown that this is part of our portfolio and we will continue to support our enterprise customers."

The vast majority of Shammo's comments were around the company's wireless business, including earlier restatement that Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) is not interested in buying Dish Network LLC (Nasdaq: DISH), another common topic of speculation.

In talking about the Verizon Enterprise Solutions rumors, Shammo said the folks speculating about the sale of $10 billion in enterprise assets might be "the same reporters and bankers who are telling me to buy DISH."
