ISTANBUL -- Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, along with Superonline, a Turkcell Group company, today announced the successful implementation of the world’s first directionless and colourless WSON (Wavelength Switched Optical Network) application in the Istanbul metro network. As the enhanced version of ASON (Automatically Switched Optical Network), WSON is based on the DWDM transmission network, having optical level switching capabilities.

“The large volume of traffic passing through the Superonline network has been secured with the highest possible protection level, thanks to the directionless and colourless WSON application. We put this application in place together with Huawei in Istanbul – poised to become the world’s newest Internet base due to its geostrategic location through the Superonline’s infrastructure investments,” said Dr. Muhittin Sayin, Superonline’s Chief Technical Officer, who also emphasized the importance of breaking new ground in the world, not just in Turkey, as an innovative telecom operator.
