While Ray's Away, You Can Play: We're Extending the Leading Lights Deadline

On his way out the door to a well-earned holiday, Light Reading Editor-in-Chief Ray Le Maistre called back over his shoulder, "Whatever else you do while I'm gone, don't extend the Leading Lights deadline."

Sorry, Ray.

Lacking the steely resolve and stiff upper lip of my British boss, I have melted under pressure from marketing and PR types, and agreed to extend the deadline to next Wednesday, Sept. 4. As you can imagine, this will not make me very popular with the man snarling in this photo, even as he announced the awards entry deadline -- with no extensions -- earlier this month. Oh, and there are other juicy details here about the awards as well, so check it out.

To those of you -- and there are many -- who took Ray seriously and have gotten your entries in on time, well done. We know who you are and we admire you greatly. To those of you who haven't yet entered your product or service in the industry's most prestigious independently judged awards, you're welcome. Now, don't abuse the privilege by turning in your entry at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time on Wednesday, as that will make Ray even less happy with me. Seriously people, just submit your entries here.

We will now be announcing finalists on Monday, Sept. 9, even though it will require long hours on the part of someone -- gosh, I wonder who? -- to get all those last-minute entries sorted.

The winners, as well as the Hall of Fame inductees, will be announced at a gala dinner to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at The Out NYC, which was voted one of the world's leading "Trendsetter" hotels in Fodor's 2012 Hotel Awards. I've stayed at this hotel -- it's the only one I know that puts ear-plugs on your pillow at night instead of chocolates, so you know it's fun.

Hopefully, I'll be able to look on, from wherever I'm working next.

If you have any questions about the awards, please check out this FAQ document.

Re: Deadlines extension? Why not....
And welcome back, Ray. Great news all around then.

Today I'm particularly looking for entries in the most innovative SMB and enterprise categories. From covering them, I know that several of the top cable operators in North America and Europe have strong candidates for these slots. So I'm looking forward to seeing them stream in today and tomorrow,

Deadlines extension? Why not....
See, that's what going on vacation does... makes me all mellow.

Looking forward to all the extra entries!!  :-)

Re: Par-tay
Maybe Ray should just take Carol on vacation next time too so she can't be swayed by those marketing, PR, and sales types in his absence. Seriously, folks, we could use even more nominees in the best video category. We know there are lots of promising new TV and TV-like servics out there.

Ray is never going to go on vacation again...

But, seriously, not only should you enter the Leading Lights, come to the party in NYC. It's going to be over-the-top this year, in the best possible way. I can't wait!

Any hot new services this year?
I'm particularly on the prowl for new services -- so service provider PR folks, get on the stick! We need to hear from you.
