Euro VOIP On the Rise

1:20 PM -- The VOIP watchers at TeleGeography Inc. report a significant upturn in VOIP subscriber numbers in Western Europe in the first half of last year -- up nearly 40 percent to 21.7 million subscriptions by the end of June 2007.

And they estimate that, by the end of last year, the number would have reached 28.9 million.

Now, they're not talking about free VOIP stuff -- we're talking about paid-for IP telephony, mostly as part of a bundled broadband-related service package. And as TeleGeography notes in its report on the market, some of Western Europe's major incumbents, most notably Orange (NYSE: FTE), have experienced significant uptake.
