Telstra appoints Ms Xiaowei Chen as new China Chief Executive

MELBOURNE -- Telstra today announced the appointment of Ms Xiaowei Chen to the role of Chief Executive Officer, Telstra China.

The Group Managing Director of Telstra International Group, Mr Tarek Robbiati, said Ms Chen's appointment was the result of an extensive international search for the right person to drive continued growth and shareholder value from Telstra's business interests in China.

"I am thrilled to have someone of Xiaowei's calibre join us and lead the team in China. The appointment of Xiaowei to this role represents a significant milestone in our drive to recruit the very best people throughout our operations.

"Xiaowei's in-depth knowledge of China's new media space and proven ability to adapt and deliver in the fast moving online sector provides the experience required for Telstra's continued growth in China," said Mr Robbiati.

Born in China and educated in China and America, Ms Chen has more than 15 years experience in the media and information technology industry. Prior to joining Telstra Ms Chen was CEO for Orange Sky Entertainment Group, an integrated entertainment company including production, artistic management, advertising and new media.

Ms Chen is former President for The9 Limited (Nasdaq: NCTY) and President of China.com (HKEx: 8006), consultant with McKinsey & Co, a global management consulting firm based in New York, and was Anchor and Executive Producer for China Central Television.
