COPENHAGEN -- Danish telecommunication company, TDC achieved yet another unprecedented milestone when 24-7 Entertainment, their digital service provider, presented them with a plaque commemorating 250,000,000 downloads via the TDC and YouSee PLAY services. 250 million downloaded tracks in Denmark is equivalent to 45 tracks per 5.5 million Danes.

The subscription service, which was launched in April 2008, was developed in conjunction with 24-7 Entertainment. At the time when TDC PLAY was introduced on the market, no other telecom had ever offered a business model where the music rights were purchased at a flat rate and the music was made available for free to the provider's mobile and broadband subscribers. The plan was to recoup the costs of the music by attracting and retaining more customers, which is exactly what was done. Churn was reduced by approximately 50% for broadband users of TDC and YouSee PLAY. This service has proven to be such a success that other European telecommunication companies have copied the model.

The TDC / YouSee service allows mobile and broadband subscribers to legally download music for free. It is a win-win scenario for everyone: the consumers have access to a library of 8.6 million tracks, while the artists, songwriters and record producers are fairly compensated for their work. The service was enhanced at the end of December 2009 when a streaming component was incorporated into the TDC offering. Since its launch, streams have increased an average of 52% per month. In the month of October alone, there were approximately 2.5 million tracks streamed.
