Orange Launches Pikeo

PARIS -- Officially launched on 5 December, www.pikeo.com is a community site where Web users can discover and share their photo universes. With this free service, users can archive their photos via a PC and exhibit them for friends, family and other Web users by positioning them on a map of the world. From 1 January 2007, Yann Arthus-Bertrand is exhibiting the photos from his Agenda Utile diary devised by the GoodPlanet.org association.
Discover and share with friends and family
Available in French, English and Spanish, Pikeo allows everyone to share their talents, travel diaries, favourite collections and visions of the world with their friends, family and other Web users. Microsoft's Virtual Earth cartography service is integrated into Pikeo so that users can enrich a map of the world with their own photos. As a result, users can navigate through their friends' network of contacts to discover new members of the Pikeo community and the photos they have taken. As of 15 January, members of Pikeo can add Yann Arthus-Bertrand to their contacts and discover the Agenda Utile diary photos throughout the year on: www.pikeo.com/yannarthusbertrand.
Pikeo is open in a beta version, and it will be upgraded incorporating user feedback over the next few months, and will include new features such as automatic location on the map of the photos taken with a mobile. Developed at the San Francisco Orange Labs, the Pikeo project is part of the NExT.com programme developed at the France Telecom Technocentre and follows the Group's values of proximity, simplicity and innovation.
