Google Plans Music Service
According to reports from The Wall Street Journal and others, Google will roll out a music download service this year, with a cloud-based subscription service to follow in 2011.
Further details are still pretty scarce, and it's not clear whether Google has struck any deals with music labels yet. But "people familiar with the talks" told WSJ that the music service will be tied in with Google search, directing users who search for artists or songs to the store.
Google has also been gearing up to compete with Apple on several other entertainment fronts, planning to open an e-book store this year and adding more professional video content to YouTube.
