Google Grabs a CFO

6:30 PM -- Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) has ventured north of the border to pluck its next CFO -- Patrick Pichette from BCE Inc. (Bell Canada) (NYSE/Toronto: BCE). (See Google Adds SVP and BCE Execs Depart.)

That fills a hole left since August when CFO George Reyes, 53, announced his pending retirement rather suddenly. Reyes, who stuck around to manage the transition to a new CFO, had been with Google since 2002 and saw the company through its IPO. The consensus on his "retirement" story: believeable. Pichette was Bell Canada's CFO in 2002 and 2003, and his latest title there was president of operations, as a quick Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) search could tell you. He'll join Google on Aug. 1 as a senior vice president, taking over fully as CFO on Aug. 12.
