VI Systems introduces ultra-high-speed VCSEL driver chips designed for evolving 25-Gbit/s and 28-Gbit/s standards in optical communication

BERLIN -- VI Systems GmbH, a leader in ultra-high speed optical components for data communications, introduces the A25-120C VCSEL (vertical cavity surface emitting laser) driver integrated circuit for optical data transmission. This VCSEL driver chip is designed for the use in high speed optical transceivers with serial data rates of 25 Gbit/s and 28 Gbit/s. The A25-120C is specified for the next next generation of directly modulated VCSEL with high data rates up to 28 Gbit/s. The device is capable to modulate VCSEL with very high frequencies which allow high speed data transmission over a 50/125um multi mode fiber.

The A25-120C driver IC is designed for current modulation. The supply voltage is specified with 3.3V. The dimensions are 800 µm x 600 µm.

Target applications are short reach and very short reach optical receivers and transceiver modules used in optical communication networks as well in chip-to-chip optical interconnects in the computer industry. Future serial standards at data rates of more than 10 Gbit/s are currently developed within Common Electrical Standard (CEI-28Gbit/s) , Fiber Channel 17 Gbit/s and Ethernet IEEE 40/100 Gbit/s as well as in a number of customer specific application.
