PETALUMA, Calif. -- Teknovus, the leading provider of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) chipsets for the deployment of triple play in broadband access networks today announced a highly-integrated, low-cost Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) reference design, based on Texas Instruments’ TNETV1061 VoIP platform and Teknovus’ GEPON ONU technologies.

The new reference design enables equipment manufacturers to rapidly develop customer premises equipment optimized for IP-based triple-play services over fiber. The TK13SV7 combines the strength of TI’s TNETV1061 system on a chip, which integrates the company’s Telogy Software™ for high-quality VoIP with the strength of TI’s DSPs for real-time signal processing, and Teknovus’ IPTV-capable TK3713 ONU chip.

Dr. Rex Naden, CEO of Teknovus, said "This reference design will serve as the foundation for wireless, home gateway, and additional capabilities in the future. We are delighted to be working with TI, the market leader in worldwide VoIP port shipments, on this product."

The reference design encompasses support for basic voice functionalities to advanced voice services along with NAT, firewall, switching and wireless capabilities. It includes seamless software integration with existing CPE deployments to ensure simple upgrade and support.

"We are very pleased to be working with Teknovus on their new VoIP-enabled GEPON reference design, which will enable vendors to rapidly design and deliver carrier-grade, triple-play, fiber-to-the-home products," said Fred Zimmerman, executive director, VoIP CPE products, Texas Instruments. "This unified reference design matches our customers’ demands for higher integration, supporting fast time to market with field-proven software and TI’s well known manufacturing and support capabilities."
