COLOGNE, Germany -- Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced that Digital Cable Systems (DCS), Romania’s third largest cable and direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service provider, has deployed Harmonic’s market-leading digital video delivery solutions to power its new AKTA TV digital service. Harmonic's fully integrated IP-based solutions enable DCS to reduce capital and operating expenditures by using a national IP transport backbone to deliver high quality digital TV services to remote headends across the country.

DCS has deployed Harmonic's market-leading ProStream™ 1000 stream processing platform for re-encoding, multiplexing and scrambling, bNSG™ 9000 edgeQAMs for reliable edge processing, and NMX Digital Service Manager™ to manage the complete video network infrastructure. DCS, an existing Harmonic customer, is located in Bucharest and launched the new 80-channel AKTA TV digital service in March 2010.

In a separate release:

Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced that Kabelsignal has deployed Harmonic’s market-leading IP-based video processing solutions for its kabelDigitalTV service in Austria. Part of the EVN group, Kabelsignal is one of Austria's leading and most innovative cable operators, covering the region of Lower Austria and Burgenland. Kabelsignal was able to launch the new service quickly thanks to an integrated, easy-to-install solution and support services provided by Harmonic and its longstanding partner and regional reseller Normann Engineering GmbH.

Harmonic's real-time IP distribution solution cost-effectively increases capacity between headends and guarantees highly reliable service through redundant forward links and forward error correction (FEC) transmission, enabled by Harmonic’s ProStream™ 1000 stream processing platform. Kabelsignal is also utilizing the Mentor™ re-encoding technology available on the ProStream 1000, as well as the market-leading NSG™ 9000 universal edgeQAM and NMX Digital Service Manager™ for its broadcast digital service.

In a separate release:

Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today introduced the PWRBlazer™ 3142E, a compact 4x4 scalable optical node that addresses the need for a dense, cost-effective node with forward and return path flexibility. Redundancy and four-way segmentation options, offered in both forward and return paths, enable the PWRBlazer 3142E to economically deliver today’s broadcast services as well as support additional narrowcast services such as VOD, data or telephony. The PWRBlazer 3142E, like Harmonic’s other scalable and environmentally hardened optical nodes, streamlines the process of segmenting the hub-to-home section of the cable network in order to increase the effective bandwidth to and from the subscriber.

“The new PWRBlazer 3142E provides operators with greater density and flexibility to facilitate a wide variety of configurations. Cable MSOs can more easily segment their networks without the significant capital expenditures associated with new plant constructions,” said Harry Chou, Senior Director of HFC Product Marketing for Harmonic Inc.

Ideal for fiber-deep architectures and distribution applications, the PWRBlazer 3142E is easy to configure and includes an ergonomic, rugged, die-cast aluminum housing. The housing supports an easy-to-use fiber management system, dual AC input buses (for redundant network powering), optional backup power pack, RF output module and motherboard. The RF module supports four high-level outputs, power-passing capability, and four-way segmentation in both the forward and return paths. A return mute switch in each RF return path enables operators to individually isolate the source of ingress. An optional status-monitoring transponder allows remote monitoring to ensure network reliability.

Harmonic’s award-winning video stream processing, edge and HFC access systems are deployed by cable operators around the world to power their TV services. The comprehensive portfolio of Harmonic cable solutions will be on display at ANGA Cable 2010, stand #H39, taking place in Cologne, Germany from May 4-6.
