Cortina’s PON innovation accelerates adoption in fast growing 10G EPON and EPON/GPON markets

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Cortina Systems, Inc. (Cortina), delivering innovative technologies that link people and networks worldwide, today announced a family of PON products accelerating the adoption in the fast growing worldwide PON markets: CS8124 Quad 10G EPON OLT with integrated advance traffic management, CS8160 10G EPON ONU for MDU deployments, and CS8232 Dual Mode EPON/GPON ONU with home gateway capabilities. These parts target the fast growing segments of the PON spectrum. For the central office, Cortina CS8124 10G EPON OLT is the industry’s first high density 10G EPON OLT driving market-leading innovation for cost-effective line card designs with support for the latest SIEPON and DPoE standards. For MDU applications, Cortina CS8160 10G EPON ONU SoC device has best in class architecture optimized for high-density subscriber traffic management. For fiber to the home gateway, Cortina CS8232 Dual Mode EPON/GPON ONU has Cortina Packet Express architecture with industry leading flexibility allowing it to be configured as a full feature, high-end ONU or a cost effective low-end ONU. Cortina’s new product initiatives usher in a paradigm shift for system providers to deliver new game changing services for end users.

"Global PON equipment revenue shot up 27% in the fourth quarter from the previous quarter, led by healthy increases in EPON and GPON shipments with 10G EPON growth expected to start in 2012 and increasing over 2013-2016,” said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst for broadband access and video at Infonetics Research. “This growth requires chip and system vendors to supply operators with a diverse range of products, such as bridge to gateway ONUs and in the central office an upgrade pathway to high density solutions. Cortina is releasing products targeted at the sweet spot of the market growth.”
