Broadcom aimsm to reduce the complexity of implementing secure enterprise networks with new StrataXGS III Gigabit Ethernet switches
January 22, 2007
IRVINE, Calif. -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), aglobal leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, todayannounced a new generation of multi-layer Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switchesdesigned to improve enterprise network security through a highly scalableand easy-to-manage security infrastructure. This latest generation ofBroadcom® StrataXGS® III Gigabit Ethernet switches features newBroadShield(tm) security technology, which enables network admission control(NAC) and supports Microsoft's Network Access Protection policy enforcementtechnology to achieve dramatically improved network security andmanageability when compared to existing solutions.
Network security is one of the top concerns for enterprise IT networkmanagers, given the prevalence of hacking, malware and inside securitythreats, as well as, the need to comply with government regulations. It is achallenge to implement security profiles for one user, let alone anenterprise network with hundreds, or thousands, of users. Additionally, ITprofessionals prefer standards-based solutions (versus proprietarysolutions) to ensure interoperability between multiple hardware and softwarevendors. As a result, next-generation switching solutions must keep pacewith the ever changing security threats in enterprise networks, and theunderlying security infrastructure must be cost-effective, as well as easierto implement and manage.
Announced today is the Broadcom StrataXGS III BCM56510 series of multi-layerGigabit Ethernet switches, a follow-on series to the company's widelydeployed BCM56500 series. All products in the BCM56510 series are equippedwith BroadShield security technology, a multi-layered security frameworkthat includes a robust set of standards-based features to dramaticallyimprove security while delivering unmatched scalability. The key securityfeatures include standards-based authentication, user quarantine, denial ofservice (DoS) attack prevention, 'man in the middle' attack prevention, spoofing prevention, and support for advanced access control lists (ACLs).
"The breadth of security features in Broadcom's BroadShield technologyaddresses our customers' needs for a more robust and scalable enterprisesecurity infrastructure," said Eric Hayes, Director of Marketing, BroadcomEnterprise Switching line of business. "Broadcom is setting the stage forstandards-based networks where endpoints and switches can interoperate intoday's complex multi-vendor environment."
