MUNICH -- Siemens Networks and Infoblox in Santa Clara, California (USA), have concluded a partnership covering services for internet addresses that allows mobile and fixed-network operators to securely and reliably resolve domain names into IP addresses. Siemens is thus extending its product portfolio to include so-called domain name resolution (DNS) products from Infoblox and is offering the accompanying consulting, integration and maintenance services.

More and more telecommunications networks are connected to the internet, for example through roaming with foreign carriers or connections to service partners for mobile applications or to the voice networks of corporate customers. This requires reliable and secure DNS services for the network operation that primarily convert domain names such as www.siemens.com into IP addresses. This can be compared to a telephone directory that resolves the subscribers' names into their telephone numbers. For these identity-driven networks (IDN), Siemens integrates and certifies the DNS appliances from Infoblox into its core network solutions for telephone carriers and Internet Service Providers, for example for UMTS and GPRS networks or for Voice-over-IP (VoIP) infrastructures. Thanks to hardened operating systems, the DNS platforms are secure and reliable, and offer optimum protection from intrusion into the telephone networks.

Customers appreciate this: Siemens has already sold DNS appliances from Infoblox to more than 40 mobile operators in almost 30 countries. Through the new cooperation contract, Siemens is extending its portfolio for DNS services and offering a series of additional services. These cover auditing, consulting, concept design for the infrastructure, integration and training of employees. By request, Siemens can also take over operation of the network's entire security infrastructure and covers all the critical areas surrounding network security.

The DNS appliances from Infoblox offer real advantages: They are easy to install and maintain, and are a reliable, scalable and simple to administer alternative to conventional DNS solutions. If a connection or individual units break down, the service is kept going, supported by highly developed backup and disaster recovery functions.
