Of course, there seems to be no shortage of people willing to be signed up for being marketed as these assets.

As the adage goes, if you're not paying for the service, you are the product.

Irony is the new reality. Companies that are making billions by marketing their customers as assets are seen as the last line of defense in privacy protection.

For both parties, this election is very populism vs. elitism.  (On the Dem side, Clinton vs. Sanders; on the GOP side, Trump vs. everyone else (some would argue Trump and Carson vs. everyone else, but Carson isn't polling so well anymore.)

The American people as a whole seem pretty fed up; they just don't particularly agree on what they're fed up about.
