Indonesia's XL Axiata chooses Juniper Networks SRX for major gateway upgrade
April 27, 2010
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks(R) (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that its high-end firewalls have been deployed by Indonesian mobile service provider PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL) to expand the capacity of its Internet access gateway infrastructure. Implementation of the award-winning Juniper Networks SRX5800 Services Gateways paves the way for XL to continue the aggressive expansion of its customer base and support rapidly rising demand for data services.
In 2009 XL's customer base grew 21% to 31.4 million, with most of that growth coming in the fourth quarter. During the year, XL's data services revenue increased by 269%. Both factors put considerable stress on the company's existing mobile network gateway infrastructure.
'The increase we experienced in data services usage last year reflects the fact that customers are moving beyond basic telephony and SMS to Internet chatting and social networking through their cell phones,' said Dian Siswarini, XL's Director of Networks. 'These kinds of applications require multiple simultaneous IP network sessions with address translation, which is one of the areas where Juniper Networks SRX 5800 Services Gateways excels. The SRX 5800's scalability, reliability and flexibility means XL is now well-equipped to address this transition in customer demand.'
