LEXINGTON, Mass. -- Arbor Networks®, a leader in network security, today announced that global Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have begun using Arbor's Peakflow® SP security technology to provide security services to their enterprise customers. ISPs such as Cable & Wireless plc, SAVVIS, Belgacom and Hydro One are offering new value-added security services to ensure enterprises receive bandwidth that is free of flooding denial of service (DoS) attacks.

Security services offered by service providers and that leverage Arbor Peakflow include:

  • Cable & Wireless DDoS Protection

  • SAVVIS Network-Based DDoS Mitigation

  • Belgacom Clean Internet Service

  • COLT IP Guardian

  • Hydro One DDoS Service

Enterprises are increasingly demanding "clean bandwidth" from their service providers in response to the growing number of distributed and targeted denial of service (DoS) cyber attacks that disrupt corporate networks and business continuity. Beginning in 2004, increased DoS attacks and targeted extortion attempts heightened interest and desire for preventative security measures that would provide guaranteed levels of network availability, according to the Gartner, Inc. report "Hype Cycle for Infrastructure Protection, 2005."

In response, service providers are turning to network-based DoS-prevention and Quality of Service (QoS) offerings using Arbor Peakflow SP to better protect their enterprise customers. Services include security alerting and notification of potential real-time attacks from viruses, worms and DDoS attacks as well as include identification and mitigation techniques within the network backbone.

"Managed security services give us that all important competitive edge," said Mark Hanvey, chief security officer for Cable & Wireless. "Cyber attacks are volatile and debilitating for our enterprise customers, so as part of our multi-layered security approach, we embed mitigation solutions in our core network to protect their business critical environments.

"We have brought together our cloud-based DDoS and Intrusion Prevention services with our secure gateway services and LAN services to give fully integrated security to ourselves and our customers. Combined with our alerting and dashboard reporting, we can see the real-time status of security and demonstrate both the effectiveness of the protection measures and the Return on Investment.

"We currently offer this fully managed service to high street brands from retail, finance, media entertainment and gaming sectors as well as to ISPs and mobile carriers."
