NEW YORK -- UBM has appointed Dan O'Shea as Managing Editor at online telecom publication Light Reading (www.lightreading.com), the premier source for telecom industry analysis, which leads its sector in terms of traffic, content, and reputation.

O'Shea has been covering the telecom sector for 20 years, writing about all aspects of the industry and winning several ASBPE (formerly American Society of Business Publication Editors) awards. He previously served as editor-in-chief of Telephony magazine and was the founding editor of FierceTelecom.

Now, following a six-year stretch as a home-based freelancer, Chicago-based O'Shea is joining the Light Reading editorial team (on July 26) just as it introduces a new design, additional multimedia functionality, and greater engagement with the global communications industry community.

"It's a real coup to have Dan on the team. His knowledge, experience, and in-depth understanding of the industry will be invaluable as we embark on the re-launch of Light Reading. As well as being a top-class editor, Dan is very well known and very well respected in the industry," said Light Reading Editor-in-Chief Ray Le Maistre. "And with his in-depth knowledge of fantasy sports, craft beer, and baseball, Dan is going to be an invaluable source of interesting but largely irrelevant information, which I'm sure he will share liberally with the Light Reading community."

"I'm thrilled to be working alongside long-time colleagues and friends such as Ray, Carol Wilson, and Sarah Reedy, as well as working for such an esteemed telecom publication," said O'Shea. "If there is an intersection to be explored between telecom and craft beer, I'll find it. But in the meantime I'll concentrate on fresh analysis of hot topics such as packet-optical, Carrier Ethernet, and SDN."

The revamped Light Reading, due to debut in August, will employ the content management system and proven operational strategies of DeusM, an integrated marketing services company owned by UBM. DeusM builds and operates highly engaged communities of qualified users within specialist B2B markets using a strategy of best-practices focused on content and technology.
