SBC Slips in Second Quarter

Despite launching an aggressive DSL discounting promotion, SBC's broadband Internet subscriber additions slipped in the second quarter to 360,000, a 28% drop from the 504,000 DSL customers the telco added in Q1. SBC finished Q2 with 5.97 million DSL customers. SBC's video customer additions also plummeted in Q2 to a mere 10,000 through its resale of EchoStar's DISH Network. Clearly, SBC has lost its appetite for this DISH as it works to cook up a home-made video offering delivered over its DSL network. As a point of comparison, SBC added 101,000 DISH customers during the same quarter a year ago.
