OSLO, Norway and ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway (Oslo Stock Exchange: TEL and NASDAQ: TELN) today commercially launched Terralink Secure™ Version 7.1, the first in a series of secure networking value added services to enable users to filter more effectively security attacks and unwanted Internet content over satellite communications.

Terralink Secure Version 7.1 includes automatically updated anti-virus, anti-spam, and intrusion protection (Firewall) services.

Terralink Secure is designed to stop unwanted traffic and content coming from the Internet to a user’s satellite terminal before the content enters the satellite portion of the end-to-end connection. This differs from client-installed firewalls and security programs running on the user’s PC, which can stop unwanted traffic after it has passed over the satellite portion of the connection. As a network based service, Terralink Secure results in a more efficient use of the satellite link both in terms of throughput and cost.

“Terralink Secure is one of the first services of its kind to protect customers’ satellite communications similar to the way Internet service providers protect customers from offensive attacks and unwanted content over terrestrial systems,” said Anders Kallerud, executive vice president of Telenor Satellite Services. “Terralink Secure is a unique value added service from Telenor Satellite Services available for use with Telenor’s complete portfolio of Global IP-based services.”
