Sanmina-SCI will build a center close to Ciena's Linthicum, Md., facility to provide electronic assembly and testing services

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Sanmina-SCI Corporation(Nasdaq: SANM - news), a leading electronics contract manufacturer, today announced that it has been selected by CIENA® Corporation (Nasdaq: CIEN - news), a global provider of intelligent optical networking systems and software, to manage electronic assembly-related New Product Introduction(NPI) services for CIENA's long-haul, and metropolitan transport and switching products.Under the terms of the agreement, Sanmina-SCI will create a world class NPI center close to CIENA's Linthicum, Maryland facility to provide electronic assembly NPI services including design, process and test engineering services as well as traditional turnkey NPI manufacturing and test services. As part of the agreement, Sanmina-SCI will hire a number of CIENA employees and lease manufacturing space from CIENA.Hari Pillai, president and general manager of Sanmina-SCI's EMS Division, said, "We are very pleased to have been chosen by CIENA as the preferred partner for NPI services.
