S-A Picks Broadcom for VoIP Telephone Adapters

Broadcom Corp. is clearly looking to score big with voice over IP (VoIP) silicon. In an announcement earlier this week, Broadcom said it has started supplying VoIP chips and software to Scientific-Atlanta for the development of next-generation VoIP adapters. Broadcom cited market research statistics indicating that the number of broadband IP telephony subscribers could reach 10 million worldwide next year and 25 million by 2008. Broadcom also supplies chips and software to S-A for the manufacture of digital set-top boxes, high-speed data modems, voice modems and wireless residential gateways.
