Australia's largest mobile operator chooses Ericsson Diameter Signaling Controller to expand its wireless network.
November 7, 2013
STOCKHOLM -- Telstra, Australia's largest mobile operator, has selected the Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) Diameter Signaling Controller to expand its wireless network and meet the rapid growth in mobile broadband usage.
Control signaling is probably the most critical function in a telecom network and Diameter has quickly become one of the most widespread protocols. By incorporating DSC, Telstra shows its commitment to continue to evolve to the next-generation all-IP network, meeting the exponential growth in smartphone-driven traffic. As more and more operators deploy LTE the requirements for signaling control, both within an operator's own network and between operators, also increase.
The benefits of implementing Ericsson DSC include more robust signaling network architecture, significant CAPEX and OPEX savings, and a reduced risk of malicious IP attacks. It will also improve the use networks during peak traffic times, through load balancing and overload protection mechanisms. These improvements will help to protect against any potential network element failures.
