Risky Business

5:20 PM -- Today on Contentinople:

  • Credit Suisse warns in a report today that TV networks are taking a risk by putting their content up on Hulu, YouTube, and other sites. "Ultimately online viewing generates less revenue for TV networks than linear TV viewing. This is potentially dangerous as they move online," Credit Suisse analyst Spencer Wang says.

  • Best Buy has partnered with Sonic Solutions to launch a new online video store, making thousands of titles available for rent or purchase online through its Roxio CinemaNow download service.

  • Internet advertising spending fell 10 percent in the first quarter, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers International. It's the lowest total spend for the segment since 2007.

And in today's News Bits, Microsoft gets the word out about its new search engine, Bing, through product placement and a special on Hulu.
