Retro Telecom Chic

10:50 AM -- Do you sometimes feel as if your sleek, modern, European-designed mobile phone, is, like, missing something? Clearly you need to go retro.

An outfit called Mockia has something for you. Take a 70s era desktop phone and plug it into your mobile. You've feel like a detective on Hawaii Five-0.

Or maybe you just feel like talking through a banana.

What exactly the point is, we're not sure.

I love that they list "huge battery" as a key feature!

re: Retro Telecom Chic The other day an Elvis movie was on TV and my wife pointed out that Elvis had just pulled a super-huge brick-like phone out of his car. It was attached to the inside of the car via a cord. This was early sixties, likely. Hollywood's first carphone? probably not. But we were impressed that Elvis was so cutting edge. He should have worked at Carphone Warehouse.

re: Retro Telecom Chic I love the description on that page of the Motorola brick phone:

"So there are a few features lacking with this phone, but if it was gadgetry you were after you wouldn't be on this page would you? If you want bluetoothery, textual intercourse, video-mp3-colour-screen-eyestrain then toddle off to the high street and buy yourself something new and shiny and whizzbang"

Funny, I'd never heard of textual intercourse...

re: Retro Telecom Chic
If these phones had a massive battery life and were nearly indestructible, then there might be a real market for them beyond retro chic.

Sure, that iPhone is cool, but how cool will it be when it drops 5 feet onto asphalt?
