Ofcom Opposes Euro FCC
10:55 AM -- U.K. regulator Ofcom 's chief executive Ed Richards lashed out at European Commission proposals to create a "European FCC" in an editorial published in the Financial Times. (See Reding Wants 'European FCC'.)
"A centralisation of power to Brussels, plus a new European bureaucracy, is not the answer," writes Richards in the article.
Among the national regulators, the centralized regulator proposal is perhaps the most unpopular of Reding's plans to revamp Europe's telecom rules. They think they know their markets best; they like their independence; and they don't want Brussels to interfere with their decisions.
