Dennis Barsema is named Vice Chairman and Vivek Ragavan is named Chief Executive Officer and President

SUNNYVALE, CA--Redback Networks, Inc., (Nasdaq:RBAK), a leading provider of advanced networking solutions, today announced that Dennis Barsema has been elected vice chairman of the board of directors effective July 17, 2000. Vivek Ragavan, president and chief operating officer of Redback Networks, will succeed Barsema as chief executive officer (CEO).

Barsema will work closely with Ragavan to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities, and will remain active with Redback's customer and market opportunities in his new role as vice chairman of the board. "Vivek brings an outstanding complement of skills to the chief executive role at Redback," said Barsema, "from years of general and business unit management at Siara and ADC to a very solid technical background."

Ragavan, who has more than 20 years of executive management experience in the telecommunications industry, was president and CEO of Siara Systems, which merged with Redback Networks in March 2000. Prior to Siara, Ragavan was president of the Residential Broadband Group of ADC Telecommunications, Inc., where he was responsible for ADC's telecommunication equipment businesses.

Prior to joining Redback, Barsema held general and sales management positions with several telecommunications equipment suppliers, including AT&T Paradyne and Centigram.
