Radisys Picks IDT

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- IDT(TM) (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.) (Nasdaq:IDTI), a leading provider of network search engines (NSEs), today announced it has partnered with RadiSys to provide solutions targeted at the emerging advanced telecom computing architecture (ATCA) platform. As a leading supplier of advanced embedded systems used in commercial, enterprise and service provider markets, RadiSys has developed a daughter card featuring the IDT 75K72234 NSE with dual Network Processor Forum (NPF) look-aside (LA-1) interfaces to accompany its Promentum ATCA-7010 10 Gbps packet-processing module that customers can use to significantly boost packet processing performance with minimal design effort. The combined solution can be used as a designer's evaluation platform or as an off-the-shelf system, which can be deployed directly into an end design in next generation networking equipment delivering high packet processing performance such as traffic aggregators, intrusion detection systems and high-bandwidth line cards.

The RadiSys Promentum ATCA-7010 is a single slot ATCA module capable of achieving up to 10 Gbps throughput. The modular design of the solution enables I/O and fabric interface flexibility. The PICMG 3.0- and PICMG 3.x-compliant module includes dual Intel IXP2800 network processor units (NPUs) and a powerful memory architecture. The IDT 75K72234 NSE offloads routing and classification lookups from the Intel NPUs, enabling the NPU to have more headroom and thereby focus on providing differentiated services, adding increased value to the end customers. Its dual LA-1 interfaces allow the NSE to be a shared resource between both Intel NPUs, providing design flexibility, reduced board space, cost, and power consumption, as well as improved performance for both ingress and egress packet processing. Additionally, software support for the IDT NSE family has been fully integrated with the Intel NPU software development tools to save customers significant engineering resources and enable overall savings in development and design time.

"We considered many factors when looking for a NSE partner whose technology would complement our Promentum ATCA packet-processing modules," said V. Prasannan Senior Director, AdvancedTCA Products for RadiSys. "Most important was the fact that leading NSE solutions from IDT are coupled with best-in-class software support to ease time associated with system integration. Also, because IDT NSEs interface seamlessly with leading NPUs from Intel to offload classification and routing, we were able to increase the performance of our systems to support applications requiring up to 10 Gbps throughput."

"IDT offers a broad portfolio of NSE solutions that can enhance the search performance of solutions based on our NPUs," said Frank Schapfel, Product Line Marketing Manager, Intel. "The interoperability of our NPU products and software with IDTs NSE solutions allows us to help companies like RadiSys offer solutions targeted at emerging platforms, such as ATCA, with the goal of supporting high performance packet processing in communications networks."
