Qwest Faces Fed's Fist

The U.S. government is considering barring Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) from future government contracts in an effort to clamp down on corporate fraud endemic in the telecom sector in the past few years (see GSA Considers Debarring Qwest).

Qwest said that the notice by the General Services Administration was prompted by a criminal indictment and civil complaint against four former Qwest executives charged with corporate accounting fraud in February of this year. Get all the sordid details on Boardwatch.

The whole point of the exercise seems to be to
get a point where any new federal contracts
are going to be divided between SBC and
Verizon with no competition from anyone else.

re: Qwest Faces Fed's Fist Your assesment is dead on. AT&T is out to eliminate govt competition. They are heavily involved in GIG-BE and are trying to knock out any potential threats on the services side as well.
