Gerhard Kafka has worked as freelance journalist, independent seminar leader and consultant in all areas of commercial telecommunications since 1990.
Born in Vienna, Austria he studied telecommunications at the Technologisches Gewerbemuseum and started his career with production, service and sales at Siemens und Knott Elektronik. Since 1977, he has concentrated on specific solutions for data and telecommunications. Until 1990, he held management positions in sales and marketing at the following American and European companies: Halcyon, Dynatech, Tekelec Airtronic and Telindus. During this time, he significantly contributed to the market introduction of new network technologies such as X.25, ISDN, LAN and high-speed modems.
Mr. Kafka's current areas of specialisation are local and public networks, Internet, corporate networks/VPN, next generation networks, network operators, standardisation, security, system- and network management, mobile and satellite communications, as well as cost-effective communication solutions. His special interests focus on the development of new technologies, including home networking, NGN, xDSL, VoDSL/IP, DWDM, UMTS and photonic transmission systems.
He has authored nine books and more than 500 articles in German and international publications and is respected in both the private and public sector as an effective and extensively experienced adviser and trainer.
