HAMPSHIRE, U.K. -- Innovative telecoms engineering company, Patapsco Communications, is launching PacketBand ISDN-4P, the first Pseudo-Wire1 product to offer clear-channel ISDN tunnelling, so allowing carriers and users to run switched and dynamic ISDN services over an IP/MPLS network.

Aimed at carriers, for government, military, and corporate users as well as other IP equipment vendors and system integrators, PacketBand ISDN offers unique opportunities to transport high value, high margin services over standard IP networks. It allows on-demand synchronous services to run over IP, whilst preserving the “B” channels and all the signalling and data performance characteristics required by ISDN. In effect it turns a managed IP/MPLS network into an ISDN service.

PacketBand places individual calls across an IP network when needed, with the added ability to “break-out” into national or international ISDN networks, opening a multitude of applications and services, for competitive and cost-saving opportunities. PacketBand also supports non-switch T1/E1 TDM over IP Pseudo-Wires and opportunities for voice traffic which is sensitive to quality and/or delay.

According to the research report: Pseudowires and the Future of Transport and Access Technology (January 05) by Heavy Reading2, Pseudo-Wire technologies such as PacketBand ISDN, have been heralded as “the solution for convergence in future telecom networks, because it preserves profitable legacy services even as it enables the creation of a truly next-generation network”.
