With the world finally seeing a few rays of sunshine at the end of the tunnel, after the devastation of the Covid-19 pandemic, we can see, ICT is the infrastructure keeps everyone everything connected, network automation is more important than ever to make the infrastructure more reliable and resilient.
With the COVID-19 pandemic driving increased demand for home broadband connectivity, providers worldwide are increasingly looking beyond wires toward FWA to keep people connected to enjoy broadband services at home, enabling them to resume work and education. Advancing wireless network technologies and growing industry ecosystem have already enabled 4G/5G FWA in providing high-bandwidth wireless broadband services with huge capacity. Because wireless networks are inherently dynamic, operators struggle to reliably and efficiently enable FWA services, particularly with heightened bandwidth demands and service provisioning challenges during Covid lock-downs. Base on a recent Frost and Sullivan report found that FWA's growing footprint now spans an estimated 406 mobile operators in 164 countries, What's the key to FWA growing so fast?
The key is Huawei's WTTx Suite, the industry's first solution that enables automatic end-to-end FWA service provisioning, WTTx Suite can enable 'zero touch' FWA service provisioning with the capabilities including first, pre-evaluation for guaranteed customer experiences and optimal service packages for customer recommendations. Second, post-evaluation for proactive user experience management to reduce churn rates. Adaptable for either 4G LTE or 5G services, the WTTx Suite offers carriers more streamlined FWA deployment from the start. Using intelligent algorithm and simulating technology, it can assess local network signal strength as well as available numbers allocation and service cell loads. With that, providers can better design, manage and launch home broadband services with stronger service level agreements (SLAs) and more efficient use of wireless spectrum resources.
For customer acquisition, WTTx Suite's network assessment intelligence feeds updated information on local capacity and coverage estimates to the provider's up-layer system, giving prospective subscribers far more accurate and reliable pre-sale evaluation of available service speeds at their specific address. In trials on multiple carriers' networks, this has produced accuracy of 90%. Moreover, WTTx Suite supports self-installation. A downloadable app guides the customer through the self-installation process, suggesting an azimuth based on true north of serving cell for the CPE location. With this locator process, the installation is 50% more efficient. For the customer, this "zero touch" self-installation offers an added level of safety as the COVID-19 pandemic continues; for providers, it eliminates the need to send technicians to install the service, significantly reducing customer acquisition costs.
Once service is installed, the WTTx Suite analyzes the CPE status, often identifying service issues for correction often before the customer is aware there is a problem. If the customer does notify the provider of a service problem, the platform can more quickly identify the network or CPE issue to provide faster resolution. Looking beyond CPE performance, the WTTx Suite tracks network performance down to the local level and generates capacity warnings when service levels fall below preset benchmarks. Using this data, providers can make more targeted network upgrades, greatly improving their operations and maintenance efficiency while reducing customer churn due to poor service performance.
The WTTx Suite is designed to provide with open APIs that can integrate with third-party CPE provisioning and managing systems, including Business and Operation Support System (BOSS), network planning, network optimization, customer service/point-of-sale systems and web portals. Providers also can use the open APIs to develop custom applications to further enhance the service.
There is good evidence the WTTx Suite is gaining traction among carriers, with deployments in more than 80 fixed wireless networks in 35 countries. One of the first to harness the platform was Globe, a Philippine telco that tapped the platform in 2016 to launch its At Home Air FWA service. Since then the service has grown to constitute 80% of Globe's total subscriber base, adding 1.4 million new subscribers between Q1 and Q3 2020, according to Frost and Sullivan estimates.
Indonesian provider Telkomsel also has implemented the WTTx Suite, integrating its capacity mapping capabilities with its Orbit customer support app to improve the provisioning process for new home broadband customers. Elsewhere, Cambodian provider Smart @Home deployed the WTTx Suite in late 2018, and by the end of 2019 it had significantly increased its customer base – based in no small part to the platform's network insight ability to target areas where there is capacity and likely demand.
Looking ahead, FWA increases the inclusiveness of broadband connections, helping deliver the benefits of technology to all mankind. This should be the bounden responsibility as well as the obligation of leading ICT players. WTTx Suite will help the sustainable development of FWA service.
