Palm Pre-Day: Crowded, But Not Frenzied

NEW YORK -- Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) started selling the long-awaited Palm Inc. Pre in stores across the U.S. today, bringing out small crowds but no iPhone-style lines around the block.

Unstrung turned up at one of Sprint's flagship stores in Manhattan -- based in the iconic Flatiron building just off Broadway and 21st Street -- at just after 10 a.m. to find dozens of people waiting in line to buy the Pre. Store staff estimated the wait at about 30 minutes for those looking to buy.

Flatiron Sprint's communications manager for the New York area, Mark Elliott, said he was happy with the turnout on a somewhat overcast morning.

"We didn't want people to feel rushed into buying," he told Unstrung, noting that Sprint employees were deliberately spending time with potential buyers to walk them through the features of the Pre and its WebOS operating system.
