Pace Develops OCAP-Based DVR System

Pace Micro Technology has crafted a digital video recorder (DVR) system based on CableLabs' OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP) middleware.

Pace says the new DVR system complies with the OCAP DVR tech specification that CableLabs recently drafted. The set-top box vendor plans to demonstrate the system at next week's SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Denver.

Alticast, an OCAP middleware supplier, teamed with Pace to develop the DVR system for the manufacturer's digital cable set-tops. The Pace boxes feature Alticast's OCAP solution, AltiCaptor OCAP 1.0.

Pace says it will use the new CableLabs spec in all current and future OCAP-based DVR set-tops, starting with its flagship Tahoe TDC775. The Tahoe box is a digital set-top with dual tuners that supports DVR and high-definition service.
