Will the C-band auction set up US operators for a European-sized failure?
In the above charts, which show bidding through round 45, the New Street analysts highlight the varying demand for the 280MHz worth of spectrum up for grabs in the C-band auction, which is broken up into three blocks of spectrum: A (100MHz that could be available as early as 2021); B (100MHz that could be available by 2023) and C (80MHz that could be available by 2023). PEAs are the Partial Economic Areas that geographically separate the licenses. POPs are Points of Presence that are roughly equivalent to population figures. And the MHz-POP calculation is applied to most spectrum transactions and reflects the number of people covered compared with the amount of spectrum available.
