WALTHAM, Mass. -- Ipanema Technologies, a leader in application traffic management systems for wide area networks, today announced that former Cisco Vice President and General Manager Reza Mahdavi has been appointed president. He will be heading the worldwide operations and will be based in its U.S. headquarters.

Mahdavi joins Ipanema after 14 years at Cisco, initially as head of global and strategic partners, then president of emerging and developing countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and, most recently, as vice president of corporate affairs in San Jose, California.

Mahdavi built the foundation of Cisco’s business in emerging and developing counties, established over 30 new offices worldwide, developed strong leadership teams and oversaw the business in 97 countries, delivering exponential revenue stream in multiple billions of dollars. He remains a trusted advisor to CEOs of large enterprises and telecom providers as well as heads of state.

Mahdavi is basing his operations in the U.S. because of the importance Ipanema places on growth here. Ipanema’s WAN optimization system is designed for large companies with complex networks, which makes it ideally suited for U.S. firms.

His appointment follows recent successes for Ipanema, including partnerships with leading service providers such as BT, France Telecom/Orange Business Services, C&W, Tata Communications and Swisscom. These service providers offer turnkey high value-added managed service to large global companies. In fact, about 75% of managed services from telecoms globally are powered by Ipanema.

According to Jean-Yves Leclerc, CEO of Ipanema Technologies, “Reza has an extraordinary wealth of knowledge in cutting edge networking technology combined with a passion for excellence in global business leadership. Given his unique blend of talents and experience, I fundamentally believe that Reza will take Ipanema to the next level of opportunities and growth.”
