COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Intelliden Inc., a leading provider of standards-based network automation solutions, today announced that Dutch communications service provider KPN, has selected the Intelliden R-Series(R) 4.4 solution for IP network automation and "zero touch" activation. Intelliden 4.4 will play a pivotal role in KPN's overall "Attack-Defend-Exploit" business strategy for both traditional and new service markets across Europe. Intelliden will enable KPN to accelerate activation of value-added services such as IPTV over its next-generation network. Intelliden will also help KPN to achieve its targeted EUR850 million annual OPEX reduction by 2010 through elimination of manual network management processes.
KPN is a leading European communications service provider with over 6.9 million fixed-line, 2.2 million Internet, and 21 million mobile customers across The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. KPN is one of the world's first carriers to commit to an "All IP" network strategy, driven by increased competition, the rising cost of maintaining its legacy networks, and the need to rapidly introduce new revenue-enhancing services.
"The Dutch market is extremely competitive with one of the highest broadband and wireless penetrations in the world," said Paul van Hoogmoed, Program Manager for Network Information Management at KPN. "Although we are the incumbent communications service provider, we must become more agile, innovative, and efficient to remain competitive. Cable operators are already introducing 'triple play' services through combined TV, Internet and telephony packages. Mobile virtual network and competitive mobile operators are launching new 3G services. Our legacy networks have become too inflexible and expensive. Changes are taking too long to implement, and we need to get new services to market faster. Consequently, KPN selected Intelliden as its corporate solution for IP network automation and service activation."
